Personal Finance

The following modules have
been developed to cover the
financial capability syllabus
which forms part of PSHE.
The following learning outcomes
are included:

  • Exploring career and personal finance
  • Exploring capability and personal finance
  • Exploring risk and personal finance
  • Exploring economic understanding and personal finance
     

Module 1: Home 
Recognise household expenses and regular financial commitments.
Decide how to spend money, balancing needs and wants.
Understand when insurance is needed.

Module 2: Work
Understand how wages/ salaries are calculated and quantify take-home pay.

Module 3: Shopping
Understand different methods of payment for goods and services and learn about the alternatives.
Be able to assess best buys in a variety of circumstances.
Understand the difference between good and bad debt.

Module 4: Banking
Understand ways of choosing, opening and using different forms of bank account.
Be able to choose financial products in different circumstances.
Be able to use different ways of recording spending and savings.
Understand how personal interest rates are calculated and how they vary according to the level or risk and length of commitment.
 
Module 5: Holiday

Understand how holiday currency is arranged and how to calculate exchange rates

Module 6: Stock Exchange
Understand how the stock market works and the risks associated with it.

Module 7: Government
Understand national and local government finance and spending.

Start your own Business
Our version of Dragon’s Den. It will include development of a business idea, crafting of a business plan and budget, and presentation to the potential investors with Q&A. Emphasizes teamwork, creativity, analysis and presentation skills and helps the student understand the role of business in generating wealth. 
From the Cotton Field
to the High Street
The students will learn about the value system for a final product they recognise and discuss many of the key economic, business and social responsibility issues along the way. We combine this with a hands-on simulation where students experience the world of business. Attitudes to ethical issues related to consumer choice will be explored.
